Spring to Life: five homes to mark the start of spring

Spring has officially sprung: the days are getting longer and brighter and we’ve got a little bounce in our step. There’s optimism in the air, blossom on the trees and a particularly pleasing shade of blue in the sky. To coincide with the start of the season, we’re highlighting five homes for sale that will get you in the springtime mood – from a bright and airy former ballroom in Bath to a pretty pastel-hued apartment in London.

Coolhurst Road, London N8

Perhaps one of the most delightful things about this time of year is the return of greenery on trees – and there’s just the right spot to sit and pore over flourishing leaves in this bright and airy one-bed apartment. It’s found on the first floor of a handsome red-brick Edwardian building in Crouch End, north London, where original sash windows provide the open-plan living space with lashings of natural light and frame the verdant treetops. The bedroom is similarly full of light, with views of lush greenery through original windows. And then there’s the pastel-green kitchen, which makes the most beautiful backdrop for a springtime supper.

Fox Lane, London BR2

This 1960s mid-century house is an architectural treat all year round, but it sings even louder in spring. From sunny yellow to sea green and soft pink, uplifting colors associated with the season set a sweet tone throughout the home. But if the palette doesn’t tickle your fancy, the windows will do the trick: an abundance of glazing means the extra hours of sunshine won’t go to waste here. Then there’s the garden, where the green-fingered can hone their skills, while the balcony provides a peaceful place to lounge with a good book on those surprisingly warm spring days.

Teesdale Close II, London E2

On a sunny day, this apartment is as bright as the mood-elevating blue of its kitchen. It’s housed within a former Victorian school, a setting that certainly has its perks come spring. First of all, five behemoth windows flood the soaring double-height space with lots of light, all while promising views of blue skies above. But it’s not only humans that will find this space a pure joy to inhabit during the next few months: plants too will thrive here. Take a leaf out of the book of the current owners, whose numerous plants will look even better than usual during this season that sees growth spurts.

Walcot Street, Bath, Somerset

Here’s a home that will inspire a good spring clean. It began life as a ballroom within a Grade II-listed building in Bath, its detailed doomed lights and portal windows telling of its past. Today, however, it’s a wonderful home in which relish the cheerier days ahead. Sunlight pours through the windows and dances across the open-plan living space as time passes throughout the day. There’s something refreshing about the vast amount of white-walled space too, a fantastic backdrop to show seasonal blooms against.

Wakeman Road, London NW10

As the sun lasts a little longer and the temperatures begin to climb, we’re looking forward to spending more time outside. With that in mind, this mint-green terraced house in Kensal Green, north-west London, has caught our eye. It comes with a pretty manicured garden that’s sizable enough to host gatherings when the weather calls for it and has a built-in BBQ ready to go. The outdoor space is reached through sliding glass doors that open from the kitchen and dining area, making it all too easy to nip inside if – or, more likely, when – spring showers start to fall.
