He began his career as a writer on design and architecture, working for five years as a Senior Editor at The World of Interiors, before co-founding The Modern House in 2005.
Matt is the co-author of The Modern House (Artifice, 2015) and Ornament is Crime (Phaidon, 2017), and was previously a columnist for the Telegraph Luxury and the RIBA Journal. He has been a member of numerous awards panels, including the Dezeen Awards, and a hotel reviewer for Mr & Mrs Smith. His home has been published in Vogue and the New York Times.
Pursuing his passion for the crossover between architecture and commerce, he founded The Modern House in 2005, and continues to apply his entrepreneurial energy to growing the company and exploring new markets.
Alongside her organisational prowess, Nicola also brings considerable creativity to her role, having received a BA in Fine Art from Winchester School of Art. She continues to practise as an artist in her spare time, and has had her work privately commissioned and exhibited.
Her intellectual acuity is combined with an emotional intelligence which has allowed her to negotiate hundreds of sales with grace and skill. As Director of Home Sales, she imparts her years of experience and knowledge across the sales and appraisals teams.
Prior to joining The Modern House, Rosie had a successful career in publishing and advertising.
Charlie has a BA in Spanish from Exeter University. He previously worked in television and talent management, and ran his own business selling 20th-century furniture and ceramics with a focus on Modernism, Bauhaus and Streamline.
James has a degree in History. His father was a renowned portrait painter, and he himself is a talented artist whose work in oil, ink and acrylic has been privately commissioned and exhibited.
Jake’s intellectual prowess is complemented by his passion for architecture, exemplary communication skills and commercial acumen. Jake trained as an editorial intern at The Times and has since written for advertising studios across London, as well as The Times Literary Supplement, The Poetry Review and The Quietus.
In her role as Home Sales Coordinator, Katherine is the cornerstone of the appraisals team. She provides exceptional support to her colleagues, carrying out her work with exemplary efficiency, intelligence and style. Her competence is complemented by her creative eye, astuteness and passion for good design.
Georgia graduated from the Courtauld Institute of Art with First Class Honours, and has a particular interest in early Modern Movement architects such as Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier.
Corey has a First Class degree in Fine Art from Curtin University in Western Australia, and comes from a creative and entrepreneurial background. She previously worked for her family’s business, Hemingway Design, where she coordinated public-sector arts projects at Southbank Centre and led a team of artists that reimagined the renowned Dreamland theme park in Margate.
Olivia applies the highest standards of customer care to the sales environment at The Modern House, combining a naturally meticulous, empathetic approach with a passion for getting the deal done.
Rae has a BA (First Class) in Fashion & Dress History from the University of Brighton, and an MA in History of Design from the Royal College of Art.
Lucy’s industry experience and passion for great design are complemented by her BA in Photography, consummate project management skills and her impeccable customer service.
Jack’s naturally organised and composed nature is invaluable in his role as a Sales Advisor; skills he honed as an Account Manager in the music industry.
His considerable intelligence is complemented by his unflappable demeanor and tenacity, which serve him excellently in his role as Sales Advisor.
Emma’s interest in Modernism stems from her time as an undergraduate at Oxford University, where she studied at the Arne Jacobsen-designed St Catherine’s College. She also has an MA (Distinction) in Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art.
Since receiving a BA in Classical Studies from the University of Bristol, Charlie has spent time living and working in Tokyo and honing his editorial skills at Monocle and Wallpaper* City Guides. His enthusiasm for design along with his inquisitive spirit make him well-placed to discover, write and share stories from all parts of The Modern House community.
Prior to joining The Modern House, Allie worked as a picture researcher at Mr Porter and Thames & Hudson. She has a BA in Art History from the University of Nottingham.
