“Open-plan living spaces have a natural flow, with light streaming through the sliding glass doors to the garden”

This beautifully light, four-bedroom modern house sits in a quiet residential position close to the Dorset coastline. Within walking distance of the historic town of Wimborne and the water meadows of the River Stour, the house has been the subject of a complete renovation. The living space of over 2,522 sq ft extends across two storeys and includes a separate studio or home workspace in the private rear gardens.

The Tour

Replacing a 1960s bungalow, the house was extensively remodelled in recent years and has been finished with careful attention to detail and a pared-back material palette.

The primary entrance is positioned at the front of the house, where there is also a private driveway and a garage providing off-street parking for several vehicles. A solid oak door leads to the beautifully bright entrance hall, where pale timber and heating runs underfoot.

Following a predominantly open-plan layout, the living spaces have a natural flow, with an excellent quality of light streaming through deep skylights overhead. Sliding glass doors, framed in slimline aluminium, extend across the northerly side of the ground floor, retaining a visual connection between the inside and outside space and opening this entire area onto the gardens in warmer months.

The kitchen has been designed in a sociable, practical layout, with a breakfast bar looking onto the dining and living areas. Ply-edged bespoke cabinetry neatly houses the appliances and a larder, while solid quartz worktops provide plenty of space for cooking and food preparation.

The dining and living areas follow a clean aesthetic. Exposed pale brick and decorative tiling add texture to the walls. The layout offers versatility and flexibility of use; the dining area is currently positioned centrally, and the living space is set to one side. A wall of floor-to-ceiling hand-crafted timber shelving creates a good provision of storage and display space.

An internal steel-framed window divides the kitchen and lounge area and allows additional light to filter through. A line of painted white brick topped in slate runs the length of the room and a modern log-burning stove forms a natural focal point.

Two of the four bedrooms are positioned on the ground floor; both are well-proportioned rooms with a good provision of storage and wardrobe space. The front bedroom has large aluminium-framed windows inviting plenty of light throughout the course of the day, and the second bedroom opens directly onto the rear gardens. A modern bathroom, cloakroom and large utility space are also positioned on this level.

A double-height vaulted ceiling creates a dramatic pitch above the central staircase and leads to the two en suite bedrooms, each with in-built wardrobes and generous storage areas set into the eaves.

Outdoor Space

A paved terrace leads out from the internal dining area, the perfect position for summer lunches or a morning coffee. The rear gardens are private and secluded and primarily laid to lawn. There is also a large garden studio – an excellent space for home-working, with plenty of storage and electric heating.

The Area

The historic market town of Wimborne, characterised by the historic Wimborne Minster, is a short walk away. Located on the banks of the rivers Stour and Allen, the area offers easy access to local paddle boarding, canoeing and extensive walking routes both along the river pathways and across the surrounding open countryside.

A good selection of independent shops, restaurants and cafes can be easily reached on foot, with public transport connections from here to nearby Poole and Bournemouth and their direct rail links to London Waterloo.
