"The Thames path winds east through Wapping and takes in wonderful views, converted dock warehouses and pubs."

This two-bedroom house with private garden sits in the quiet residential streets between St Katherine’s and Wapping, in East London. Lime Close sits in a well-considered modern development, and the house has been completely redesigned to create smart open-plan living spaces and bright bedrooms above.

Traditionally made up of docks to service the maritime trade that passed up the river Thames, this part of the city is marked by impressive warehouse buildings and pretty wharfs, quays and inlets.

Lime Close is pedestrianised, and there is parking adjacent to the house. Entry is to the open plan-kitchen and dining room. Newly-fitted throughout, the kitchen has black worktops and matte-grey cabinetry. The designers have left the space open and engineered oak flooring runs underfoot.

The living room has three smart black-framed windows that look onto the garden, and a set of doors that open the room to the outside. This space is an extension to the original house, and a series of skylights ensure that it draws natural light into the kitchen and dining room.

Upstairs are two bedrooms and a family bathroom, which has views towards the Shard and Tower Bridge.

Wapping sits on the north bank of the Thames, and has a long maritime history. As such, the high street is lined with warehouses that served the docks. ‘Waterman’s stairs’ lead onto the riverbanks and there are excellent waterfront pubs.

Cinnamon Coffee is en route to the station, and is good for coffee and cake. The area around St Katherine’s docks has lots of restaurants and there are plentiful small parks. Wapping Woods is a favourite local spot for dog-walkers, sunbathers and wildlife spotters, while King Edward VI park has tennis courts, children’s play areas and is adjacent to the banks of the Thames. The open spaces of Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre are also nearby. The Thames path winds east through Wapping and takes in wonderful views, converted dock warehouses and pubs, including the local Prospect of Whitby, a firm favourite with Dockland enthusiasts, tourists and locals alike.

Lime Close is an eleven-minute walk from Wapping station, from where Overground trains run on to Canada Water for connections to the Jubilee Line, and towards South and East London. It is slightly further to Tower Hill and Tower Gateway for the Circle and District Lines and DLR respectively.
