“A benchmark against which all other apartment blocks can be measured” - Twentieth Century Society

Situated on the acclaimed Grade II*-listed Langham House Close in Richmond is this beautiful two-bedroom apartment. Dual-aspect Crittall windows ensure a wonderful quality of light throughout the flowing living spaces. Views of the lush communal gardens surrounding the building are framed in every room. This development was designed by renowned architects Stirling & Gowan and constructed between 1957 to 58. Langham House’s brutalist influences are a radical departure from similar projects of the time, helping the building to achieve a rare notoriety for post-war design – a Grade II*-listed status from English Heritage.

The Tour

The apartment is accessed through an elevated walkway leading to the front door on the first floor. The communal areas of the block are beautifully detailed and carefully maintained, featuring curved steel handrails, wide walkways, and pre-cast shuttered concrete panels.

The bright living spaces are located on one side of the plan. A sculptural exposed concrete fireplace with a fitted log burner centres the sitting room. The kitchen, located at the rear of the plan, has minimal grey cabinetry running the length of one wall, topped with an end-grain pine countertop, which adds a textural richness to the space. White subway tiles on the splashback catch the light from the large window above the sink and reflect light into the room. Additional storage can be found in the adjacent built-in pantry. Bamboo parquet flooring runs throughout, creating warmth.

Two airy bedrooms are located on the opposite side of the plan, also characterised by large Crittall windows. The main bedroom has a useful built-in wardrobe, while the second bedroom is currently configured as a study.

The current owners have sensitively refurbished the bathroom in a neutral palette with a walk-in shower.

A garage is available by separate negotiation.

Outdoor Space

Langham house is set within a tranquil communal garden. Mature trees and shrubbery line the perimeters of the grounds, framing neat rectangular lawns with undulating mounds dispersed between the blocks.
