Le Creuset’s new Azure collection finds a perfect home in Ella Jones’ expressive interior

The Modern House and Le Creuset are delighted to present a partnership to mark the release of the cookware brand’s new colourway: Azure. The bright and beautiful shade of cobalt blue has been cast over its beloved collection of kitchen essentials, from casserole dishes to cafetières – and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with Ella Jones, founder of A New Tribe, in east London. Avid readers might recall our first visit to Ella’s home in which we fell in love with her Le Corbusier-inspired scheme defined by a striking hue of blue that most notably – and aptly – comes to the fore in the kitchen. Watch our film as we return for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which Ella makes using the new Azure range while talking about the joy of her favourite colour and cooking with Le Creuset.

A New Tribe is the beautifully curated homeware store on Hackney Road in east London that Ella founded in 2016. Given her business, Ella is an advocate for investing in your interiors, whether that’s knick-knacks for the mantelpiece or pots and pans for the kitchen. As she says, your home “is where you spend your time, it reflects your personality. I think having treasured pieces that you’ve collected and really considered is very important.”

The same goes for acquiring kitchenware, with Ella preferring to “invest in pieces that not only look beautiful but last a lifetime, like Le Creuset.” Ella, like us here at The Modern House, is a long-standing fan of Le Creuset’s dependable cookware. Her existing collection includes a pair of salt and pepper mills and a ‘Cast Iron’ casserole dish that was a gift from her partner, Magnus’, parents.

The couple put their heart into their home in Walthamstow, which they share with their dog, Peggy. “Colour was really important to us when we were doing the renovation,” she says, reflecting on its transformation. “We didn’t want it to be too white or minimal.” Instead, the couple employed Le Corbusier’s colour theory, in which the architect championed the idea of creating a statement wall to draw the eye. In this case, the pair landed on a shade of blue that reminds Ella “of the Mediterranean, being in the sun and on holiday”. It also reminds her of being in Morocco and visiting the Jardin Majorelle at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum. Along with the kitchen wall, blue accents run throughout her interiors, from ceramics and candles to soft furnishings. Naturally, then, “the Azure range, which is also inspired by the Mediterranean, just fits for us,” she says.

When hosting dinner parties with friends, Ella and Magnus favour serving food family-style in the middle of the table, with good-looking dishes that double as centrepieces. “We definitely look for something that’s high quality and will last a really long time. If it’s beautiful as well as functional, such as Le Creuset’s Azure range, that’s a winning combination.”

Commenting on our collaboration, Le Creuset said: “The Modern House is the perfect partner to help us celebrate the launch of our 2023 colourway: Azure. With a passion for helping people to live in more thoughtful and beautiful ways, The Modern House emulates our thinking. We strongly feel that any home should be a space where personal expression can be embraced. Azure is a continuation of our love for tonal palettes, providing yet another colourway for our customers to take self-expression within the home to the next level.”

Watch our film to join Ella for coffee and croissants in the morning, braised kale with garlic and whipped ricotta in the afternoon and charred cherry tomatoes with yoghurt in the evening – and see her making it all with the new Azure collection.
