House Style with Charlotte Taylor

After showing us around her studio apartment in east London, interdisciplinary designer Charlotte Taylor shares her house style.

You’re happiest at home when…
It’s early morning with lamplight and a crossword.

How would you describe the interiors of your house?
A patchwork of materials and various pieces I’ve collected over the past year – not particularly coherent.

If you could only save one thing, what would it be?
The coffee table, by Massimo and Lella Vignelli.

What was the last thing you bought for the house?
The handmade, slightly gothic metal chair that weighs a ton!

Top three coffee table books?
Connections: The Architecture of Richard England, 1964-84; Nineteen Interventions: Arquitectura-G and Purple, the love issue.

If money was no object, what changes would you make?
Travel more to find pieces in markets around Europe. Some of my favourite pieces are worthless but they have such a charm.

You’re having people over for dinner: what do you cook?
Mushroom risotto is my signature recipe.

What does a Sunday here look like?
It’s often a cleaning day with Madonna playing very loud.

What are the best things about the neighbourhood?
The local feeling and spirit of the area; I rarely leave Hackney since I moved here.

How long will you be here for?
Definitely another year or so – outside of the UK will probably be the next move.
