Architect: Co Govers
Villa CP, Costa Brava, Spain
From approx £2,400
Completed in 2013, this Spanish villa is perched on its own private hilltop and overlooks an ancient cork forest.
Designed as a modern family home, the property juxtaposes traditional and contemporary Mediterranean design in both style and materials. The old stone ruin has been opened up on all sides by steel and glass interventions, maximising the coastal views and natural light.
The architect, Co Govers, is based in Barcelona, and is a former colleague of influential European architects Jose-Luis Mateo and Max van Aerschot.
The garden was also designed by Govers, and features a natural pool filtered by aquatic plants. There is also a shaded barbecue area, a number of terraces and 60 acres of private forest surrounding the property to explore.
The villa sleeps ten in five double bedrooms (three double beds, two singles in the main house and one double futon in the annex). There are four bathrooms, including one with disabled access.
The annex offers extra privacy and has its own bathroom, kitchen and living space with spectacular views.
The spacious kitchen and dining room overlook the pool and garden. The kitchen is Bulthaup, and is fully equipped for gourmet dining. The large living area has panoramic views of the cork forest and the Mediterranean coast.
Parking is available on the property.
The house is surrounded by a huge (28,000 hectares) natural park of cork forest and is only accessible by car.
The nearest town is 6km away, and has shops, supermarkets, banks, medical services and a weekly farmers’ market.
Beautiful beaches are just half an hour’s drive from the property. Thirty minutes in the other direction is Girona, a medieval city and gastronomic centre with rich cultural traditions, an international jazz festival and great shopping.
Barcelona is 75 minutes away by car.
Girona airport is 20 minutes away by car, Barcelona and Perpignan airports are both 75 minutes.
The AVE high speed train links Girona directly to Madrid and Paris.
