"The garden in front of the house is planted with flowering bushes, honeysuckle and hops as well as rosemary and sage for cooking with."

This unusual chapel was built in the mid-1800s for a Methodist congregation and is nestled in the Suffolk countryside on the outskirts of Badingham village. Only ten miles from the sea and the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB, the small building has been sensitively converted to a unique holiday house with private garden.

The Chapel is dated 1836 and the single-room building is lined around the edge with original coat hooks to serve a local congregation, and lovely wood panelling.

A result of its conversion from a chapel, the building is subject to a covenant that ensures it can only be used for holidays. It cannot be a primary residence, although there is no restriction on the time that one spends there. It cannot be rented for more than three months at once.

A grassy path leads from the road to the arched front door. Inside, the space has been left open for flexible use; the previous owners had a pull-down bed that made the most of the warmth from the wood-burning stove without imposing on the room. There are wonderfully high ceilings that could accommodate a mezzanine level, and a series of original wood-framed sash windows. At one end is a kitchen fitted in wood, and a small enclosed bathroom. A second set of doors leads onto a garden clearing that is shaded by mature trees.

The garden in front of the house is planted with flowering bushes, honeysuckle and hops, as well as rosemary and sage for cooking with. There is space at the side of the road big enough for two cars to park in, although this is not demised to the chapel it is solely for this use.

The chapel is a short drive from the popular villages of Saxmundham, Aldeburgh and Orford. The latter, a pretty medieval village on the River Alde attracts visitors for its twice daily drops of fresh lobster and crabs, its renowned oysterage and smokehouse and the excellent Pump Street Bakery. Aldeburgh is famed for its music festival and as the home of Benjamin Britten. Snape Maltings is a world-renowned centre of music and a visitor destination of great beauty, also popular with local residents.

It is just under an hour drive to Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich, where trains run to London.
