“A wonderful example of mid-century design, located on a tranquil and historic avenue a stone's throw from Greenwich Park”

This wonderful two-bedroom mid-century apartment is situated on Hyde Vale, arguably one of the finest addresses in Greenwich. It has a communal garden and commanding views of the City of London, and is just a short walk from Blackheath, Point Hill Park and Greenwich Park. Extensively renovated under the current ownership, the apartment is located on the fourth floor of a purpose-built building that echoes the form of the surrounding Georgian townhouses.

The Tour

Entrance on the ground floor leads to a communal concrete staircase with a hardwood balustrade. Exposed blue brickwork creates a striking contrast against the curtain glazing at the front and rear of the building, which enjoys verdant views of tree-lined Hyde Vale at the front and over the communal garden behind.

The apartment is located on the fourth floor. The front door opens into a central hall, illuminated by a lightwell, from which all rooms radiate. To the rear, two north-facing double bedrooms overlook the garden. The bathroom lies at the centre of the apartment’s footprint and is bathed in light from another lightwell overhead; it has been subtly appointed with grey tiling, referencing the blue brickwork of the building’s fabric.

A large kitchen-living space extends across the front of the plan. The south-facing room is exceptionally bright courtesy of curtain glazing at the front, and retains several original details such as the doors and hardware that create an undercurrent of mid-century elegance. The compact and highly efficient L-plan kitchen has a dishwasher, large fridge-freezer and gas stove.

Outdoor Space

A large, mature and verdant communal garden extends to the rear of the home; there is a large dining table and a paved area for barbeques.

The Area

The house is very well located midway along Hyde Vale, a 10-minute walk from the centre of Greenwich and a few minutes from the open expanses of Greenwich Park and Blackheath. The pretty old town, famous for its maritime history, has an excellent selection of restaurants, pubs and shops, as well as a Picturehouse cinema and a theatre. The Old Royal Naval College, designed by Sir Christopher Wren in the 18th century, hosts a popular programme of events in the gardens, including concerts, an open-air theatre and a jazz festival.

The closest station is Greenwich, running services to Canary Wharf and Bank on the DLR and rail services to London Bridge and London Cannon Street (taking eight minutes and 12 minutes respectively). The Thames Clipper can be boarded from Greenwich Pier and runs services to Westminster in one direction and the O2 arena in the other.
