"The contemporary design draws inspiration from the traditional pitched-roof timber barns of the local area, establishing a dialogue of materials between the structure and the context in which it sits."

This wonderful plot represents a rare chance to buy and build in the village of Danbury, within a fantastic woodland environment only an hour from London Liverpool Street.

The plot includes planning permission for a 1,398 sq ft detached, three-bedroom, three-storey house designed by RIBA-chartered practice, Architecture for London. The contemporary design draws inspiration from the traditional pitched-roof timber barns of the local area, establishing a dialogue of materials between the structure and the context in which it sits.

Extensive gardens and the surrounding mature oak woodland have informed the internal scheme of white-soaped timber, while an emphasis on visual warmth and tactility have resulted in frame-less glass bays and herringbone cladding on the exterior.

In its current state the land is uncleared and occupies the site of a former cattery. In addition to the house itself, new landscaping will include a raised pond surrounding the house, reflecting views of the woodland canopy and casting dappled light across the ground floor. The plans will also create parking space for more than two vehicles.

The trees around the site are protected by preservation orders and the design carefully responds to these stipulations. The foundations rest on inset pile foundations, minimising root impact via raised cantilevered ground floor slabs and reducing the need for excavation.

Danbury is an attractive, historic Essex village with a beautiful 13th century church at its centre. It benefits from being surrounded by National Trust-owned woodland and heathland, ensuring that it is a peaceful place, despite being conveniently close to many main routes such as the A12 and A414.

The nearest large town is Chelmsford, which has a wide range of facilities including a train station that runs regular services to London (Liverpool Street) in thirty-four minutes, as well as two of the top performing Grammar schools in the country. Also nearby is Maldon, a pretty town on the Blackwater Estuary, famed for its sailing, oysters and high quality salt.
