"The sensitive design of the house pivots entirely around the sanctuary of its surroundings, drawing the beautiful woodland backdrop into every room."

Immersed in a secluded wooded hamlet, Dapple House couldn’t be more aptly named. Conceived by the architect owner in 2015, this fantastic modern house has been sensitively designed for minimal impact and as such, merges effortlessly with its tranquil woodland backdrop. Living space spans just over 1,300 sqft across two storeys, with an additional self-contained studio tucked away in the rear garden. Located on the outskirts of Billericay, Dapple House sits within easy walking distance of the train station, with central London just a 40-minute commute away.

The design and orientation of the house has been driven entirely by the nature of its setting. On approach, the front of house, a black profile of simple linear forms, appears intriguingly modest. A private driveway leads to the primary entrance, opening into a bright entrance hall with slithers of natural light cutting through the cleverly positioned skylights.

The house has three bedrooms, two of which are positioned on the ground floor. The first bedroom is set to the immediate left of the entrance hall; a quiet and peaceful room with deep inset window seats and large panels of glazing drawing the outside in. The second bedroom and en-suite bathroom sits on the opposite side of the plan; an incredibly bright space, with an entire wall of glazing framing the view of the garden and a door out to the terrace. Bespoke cabinetry and wardrobes offer an excellent provision for storage throughout.

Arguably the most impressive area of the house is the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space, with a wall of glazing creating a seamless connection to the garden and providing expansive views into the woodland. A custom-built kitchen spans one side, with the living area and log-burner positioned opposite. The entire space has been thoughtfully designed to enjoy the sanctuary of its natural surroundings, celebrating the simple pleasures of a sun-soaked window seat or the dappled view through the treetops.

The entire upper storey of the house is given over to a beautifully bright master-bedroom suite, from where a sedum roof terrace can be directly accessed. Low environmental impact was a high priority in the design process and as such, the house has been exceptionally well insulated, with a natural ventilation system and water digester contributing to reduced daily energy use.

A self-contained studio, befitting an excellent home workspace or workshop, is positioned in the secluded oasis of the rear garden, with a ribbon of glazing inviting a wonderful quality of light throughout the course of the day. The ideally proportioned tiered garden sits perfectly in-keeping with the surroundings; thoughtfully landscaped with a selection of native trees and herbaceous borders, attracting an abundance of local wildlife.

Dapple House is located just a short walk from Billericay town centre and its wide selection of independent shopping, cafes and restaurants. Billericay train station is also within easy walking distance, or reachable by car in approximately six minutes. Regular rail services run a direct route from Billericay to London Liverpool Street, with a journey time of approximately 32 minutes.
