Amersham Grove

This wonderful three-bedroom, end-of-terrace house extends over 810 sq ft and lies in a perennially popular enclave of south-east London, a short distance from Deptford and New Cross. The Tour

The house presents a traditional façade, with the brick left exposed and a stucco band separating the storeys; all windows have been replaced with conservation standard, double-glazed sash windows. Entry is to a vestibule that leads to the main living space, currently configured with a living area at the front and dining area to the rear, illuminated throughout by dual aspect glazing.

The rear of the ground floor contains a spacious, open-plan kitchen with bi-fold doors opening to the garden, creating a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor environment. Thoroughly and thoughtfully realised by the current owners, dark, simple cabinetry extends the full height of the space, maximising storage. An engineered iroko wood worksurface, white splashback tiles and large format floor tiles contrast and complement each other, creating a considered, contemporary space. Large bi-fold doors open onto the patioed garden, which has mature, extensive and verdant planting.

The original staircase leads from the living space to the first floor, where one single and two double bedrooms can be found. There is a contemporary family bathroom to the rear, fitted with contrasting charcoal and white terrazzo tiling and bathed in light from a skylight above.

The Area

Amersham Grove lies in a thriving London neighbourhood with a growing cultural profile. It is a short walk from Deptford, New Cross and St Johns, with Greenwich, Nunhead, and Peckham slightly further afield. The area surrounding Amersham Grove has a range of cafes, pubs and restaurants including Bread and Butter, Tila, Stockton, Good as Gold, Sparrow, and Marcella. There are plenty of green spaces nearby, including Fordham Park, Margaret McMillan Park, Folkstone Gardens, and further afield are Nunhead Cemetery, Peckham Rye and Hilly Fields. The Green Chain Walk, which extends across south east London is easily accessible.

There is a renowned farmers’ market every Saturday at Brockley Market, offering a wide range of organic produce, alongside food trucks and wine merchants. Deptford Market Yard, a recently launched collection of independent shops and restaurants set within and around Deptford’s refurbished railway arches, is nearby. Telegraph Hill is within walking distance and also has a weekly farmer market as well as access to two parks. Goldsmiths University is within walking distance, including its free public art gallery, the Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, designed by Turner-prize winning architects Assemble.

The house is a four-minute walk from New Cross Station, which runs services to London Bridge in five minutes, as well as frequent Overground services with connections to Peckham, Shoreditch and Highbury & Islington. Deptford Station is a nine-minute walk and runs regular Thameslink services to Farringdon, St Pancras and many others.
