This four-bedroom house is located in a peaceful hamlet in Buckinghamshire.  It lies on a private road of individual houses in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  It is an early work of the celebrated Modern architect Peter Aldington. Although substantially extended since it was originally built in 1963, the core of the original house remains and features some superb spaces and detailing. The wonderful rural views from the elevated reception room are maximised by floor to ceiling glazing and a large west-facing roof terrace.

Aside from the vaulted hall and reception room, accommodation includes a master bedroom with an en suite bathroom, three further bedrooms, family bathroom, utility room, cloakroom and a generous kitchen / dining room which overlooks the front garden. There is a secluded garden to the rear of the property backing onto private woodland. The elevated front garden overlooks farm land and provides a westerly panoramic view with decking at two different levels. There is a single garage and off-street parking space for four cars.

Aldington is one of Britain’s most renowned Modern architects – indeed no other post-war architect has had as many houses listed by English Heritage as Aldington. This is a mark of the quality and durability of his architecture. Frank Lloyd Wright and Alvar Aalto were the two key influences on Aldington’s architecture, and he aimed to design beautiful, practical spaces that engaged with their natural surroundings. These aims are evident at the house in Whiteleaf. Although not quite as bold or distinctive as some of his later work, the Whiteleaf house is a still an outstanding Aldington design. Typical Aldington features that are evident at the house include timber mono-pitch ceilings, white rendered walls and tiled floors.

Whiteleaf is a popular and picturesque village set on the edge of the Chiltern Hills. The area is renowned for its natural beauty, in particular the nearby Whiteleaf and Brush Hill Nature Reserves. The village is served by a pub, The Red Lion, various sports clubs and a primary school. Further facilities, including excellent private and state schools, can be found at Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough. Trains run from London Marylebone to nearby Princes Risborough in approximately 35 minutes.
