This month, a private tour of Sea Lane House by Marcel Breuer is being organised by East Beach Cafe and the Twentieth Century Society.

Sea Lane House is one of only two remaining examples of Marcel Breuer’s architectural work in the UK, and is considered by many to be the best-preserved example of his early work. This is a rare opportunity to see inside the house, which is not usually open to the public. The Hungarian-born, Bauhaus-trained architect and designer lived in England from 1935 to 1937, but most of his career was spent in the United States.

The event, which begins at midday on Thursday 26th September, costs £60, including lunch at the Thomas Heatherwick Studio-designed East Beach Café and a tour and talk by 20th-century British architecture expert Alan Powers.

Sea Lane House was sold by The Modern House in 2011 to its current owner.

The event is supported by the Twentieth Century Society, New London Architecture, London’s Centre for the Built Environment and The Modern House.
