This week on Thursday 7 February is the second of the new free evening lecture series called Talking Interiors scheduled to celebrate the the new Master in Interior Design at the Royal College of Art, London.

Eminent architects, designers and critics have been invited to discuss, dissect and evaluate the role of the interior. The lecture series has been designed by Head of Programme, Ab Rogers. Speakers include: Konstantin Grcic, Eva Jiřičná, Fred Scott, Edward Jones and Richard Rogers. This week’s speaker is Petra Blaisse who focuses on the use of textiles, light and finishes in interior space and to the design of landscapes.

One particular lecture date to look out for is 9 May when Penny Sparke will discuss the field of Design History over the last thirty years with an emphasis, since the mid 1990s, on the relationship between design, gender and the interior. Sparke is a professor at Kingston University. Her books include As Long as It’s Pink: The Sexual Politics of Taste; An Introduction to Design and Culture – 1900 to the present and The Modern Interior.

Lectures take place in Lecture Theatre 1, Royal College of Art, Kensington Gore, London SW7 2EU at 6.30pm (entry via Jay Mews). Places are free but need to be booked in advance by emailing: interior-design@rca.ac.uk.
