NEW HOLIDAY PROPERTY: Feilden Fowles' The Cob in Devon

Sleeps: 8 plus cot

Cob Barn designed by Feilden Fowles The Red Barn, designed by David Allen

Cob Barn is a conversion located on a seven-acre farm four miles from Bude in Devon, on the same estate as its sister holiday property The Red Barn. The restoration and remodelling was completed by the London-based practice Feilden Fowles in 2012 and uses traditional building materials and rhythms in such a way to create a modern and refreshing aesthetic. It offers luxurious yet family-friendly accommodation in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. The property easily sleeps eight people in four bedrooms and has a very large, light-filled, open-plan reception room, plus a kitchen-diner equipped with all mod cons. While many of the rooms on the ground floor open onto terraces and green outdoor space to be used by guests, upstairs the barn overlooks open countryside and encourages wildlife watching. There are also wooded areas with dens for children, large grassy areas, a vegetable plot and formal gardens.

The Cob is located four miles from Bude, a town with some of the country’s best beaches, including Northcott Mouth, Summerleaze, Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven. The beaches are perfect for rock-pooling and surfing, and the coastal path is particularly stunning for walkers.

There are extensive opportunities for sailing, rowing and golf, and of course the Tate Gallery in St Ives. This area’s restaurants include Rick Stein’s restaurant in Padstow and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant in Watergate Bay.
