This Los Angeles property, designed by Austrian-born architect Rudolf Schindler in 1921, is recognised as one of the earliest Modernist residential properties in the United States.

Having studied architecture in Vienna, Schindler travelled to the US to work with Frank Lloyd Wright shortly before the First World War. Taking inspiration from Wright, Schindler went on to build this property for his own occupation.

The use of a tilt-slab concrete construction – high unusual and innovative in the early 1920s – and an open stuido layout, set the property apart from its contemporaries.
