In our ‘Meet the Team’ series, we’re getting to know The Modern House staff. Here, we’re talking to Sales Advisor Lucy Roome about her favourite kitchens from our sales roster and 12-year-old archive.

As an avid home cook, Lucy uses home-grown vegetables from her garden in Dulwich for her adventures in the kitchen, which she calls “the centre of everything” in a home.

Forest Lodge, Dartmouth Road, London SE23
“I think this is just the happiest kitchen we’ve ever had on our website. I know it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea because it’s quite bold, but I think it’s really fun while also still being elegant.

“I like that they have eschewed the white tile, white wall, white cabinet thing that you see a lot; the experimentation with colour has really paid off.

“Plus it has a balcony, and to be able to grow something or have a small table out there would be such a luxury in a small flat in London.”

Wisteria Road, London SE13
“I love this apartment because it feels so accessible for someone who doesn’t own a place in London yet. For a first-time buyer, this is everything you would want in a first home: it’s beautiful and generously sized, while also being achievable.

“I particularly like this kitchen, and I could imagine having friends over here. It’s just really light, beautiful and well-considered.”

Crowan, Cornwall
“With all that glass, being in this kitchen feels like you are outside, which, in this country, is an ideal situation because you can have that outdoor eating feeling without being cold!

“I bet it’s amazing when it’s snowing; you would feel very cosy sat at that table eating a roast dinner.”

The Yard House, Lordship Lane, London SE22
“I like when kitchens have dining tables in them because, as someone who loves cooking, I want to be able to socialise and talk to people while I’m preparing a meal.

“The fact that this kitchen is double-height gives it a great sense of openness and makes for a great focal point in the house. I also love the connection to the outside, with those doors that open onto the courtyard garden.”

Packington Street, London N1
“Again, it’s about the ability to be in the kitchen while also being connected to the living space. It feels really airy too, with a glass wall looking onto the staircase that opens up the space and provides lots of natural light.

“I like that it’s modern without feeling like someone has gone too mad; it’s soft and gentle rather than severe.”
