The Modern House curates a contemporary holiday let in a converted stable in Norfolk, available to book now

We are pleased to announce a new holiday let curated by The Modern House at Great Barn Farm, a collection of former agricultural spaces deep in the Norfolk countryside, sensitively overhauled by architects Turner.Works. The space occupies the former stables and celebrates mid-century and contemporary design through partnerships with retailers and galleries like twentytwentyone and Larusi.

Working with a material palette defined by the rustic charm of original wooden flooring, bricks and beams, we’ve collaborated with interior designer Alma +Midori to create a dialogue between art, textiles, furniture and the farmyard context. The result – amplified by the contemporary architectural intervention – is one that showcases the enduring relevance of 20th-century designs by Robin Day, William Plunkett and Vico Magistretti, while championing contemporary pieces by Barber & Osgerby, Muller Van Severen, Stefan Diez and Smith Matthias. Thrown in with textiles such as Berber rugs from Larusi and quilts by designer and maker Tessa Layzelle, an inviting, tactile feel is created – and only made more so by a wood burner and underfloor heating.

On the walls you’ll find selection of paintings, prints and wall hangings picked by a new gallery, Goldfinch. And, on the shelves of the New Order unit by Stefan Diez for HAY, The Modern House co-founder, Albert Hill has hand-picked reading materials than runs the gamut from seminal texts on modernist design to contemporary offerings.

The Stables at Great Barn Farm, owned and run by Julian and Sarah Kerkham, is a two-bedroom holiday let that can sleep up to four people, with each bedroom having its own en-suite. If lazing on the sofa gets old, the on-site swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room makes for a relaxing afternoon. Otherwise, our guide to the best of North Norfolk has tips on exploring the local area. To request a booking, please fill in the booking request form on the Great Barn Farm website.

Please note, all bookings are processed and managed by Great Barn Farm directly, and are covered by their terms and conditions.
