Jill Macnair

Originally from Glasgow, Jill Macnair has worked in London since 2001. Her design work, combining spatial planning, materials, textures and colour, translates the idiosyncratic tastes and needs of clients into environments that feel thoughtfully tailored and beautiful. She often designs and commissions bespoke, one-off furniture and crafts-pieces to help achieve this.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) degree in Interior Architecture, Macnair worked as a design editor and journalist for 15 years, for titles including ELLE Decoration, The Sunday Times and The Guardian. In 2009 she co-created the design blog, My Friend’s House, as a place to write about design humorously, and she also worked for Farrow & Ball. This period of writing and research, has helped to make her a passionate designer and colourist with a huge internal directory of design ideas and contacts.

Macnair’s project in the Highlands of Scotland was the cover story of both ELLE Decoration and ELLE Decoration Country, and she has worked on various residential projects for private clients in London, sometimes in partnership with architects.
