Craftworks

Craftworks (formerly John Smart Architects) seeks to progress the relationship between the craft of building and the art of design. The practice seeks to balances the roles of architect and developer, and has its own craft-focused, in-house construction team.

Such a synergistic structure informs the approach to the work and aims to address the restrictive and conventional practice of architecture which is often compromised by the realms of the everyday contingent. The studio is driven by risks, autonomy, experimentation and reinvention. The practice’s first major project, DKH, received the RIBA award for London’s best new housing which supported and illuminated the possible achievements of this emerging practice.
