Casswell Bank Architects was founded by Alex Bank and Sam Casswell following a commission from the international art gallery Hauser + Wirth. The modest project for an artist workspace close to their gallery in Bruton, Somerset, established a tone and culture for the practice. Central to this is developing a specific architectural character for each project that leaves an enduring, positive impression on a place. This approach is underpinned by a strong belief that architectural culture still matters to people and wider society. However, the practice remains conscious that the role architecture plays in the creation of a welcoming home, a successful institution or neighbourhood is often only a small part of the story.
