This house, situated on a tranquil 1/3 acre site in the pretty Hampshire hamlet of Arford, was originally designed and built in 1963.  The architects, the acclaimed London-based firm Murray, Ward & Partners, were commissioned by an artist who used the large elevated living space as a studio. The house has been sympathetically added to over the years and is now a three / four bedroom house with an open-plan kitchen / dining / living area and a large roof terrace. The architecture, and the fact that it is south-west facing, means that it is a very light house.

The property occupies a secluded, elevated site and the open-plan kitchen / dining / living area has a long picture window that gives panoramic views of the village and the river below. The house has a number of original features, notably a concrete fireplace (fitted with a new wood-burning stove) and wooden flooring. Exterior cedar cladding and glass brick walls also add to the appeal. Some updating has been done, including the fitting of a new boiler and high-pressure water tank and the addition of double-glazed wooden windows to the open-plan kitchen / dining / living area.

There is a driveway leading the front of the property which provides ample car parking. Surrounding the house are gardens and terraces, with the plot being enclosed by mature trees.

Arford is a quiet hamlet (close to the village of Headley) on the Hampshire / Surrey border. Arford has a popular pub, The Crown. The sought-after market towns of Haslemere and Farnham are close by (both of which have stations that run trains to London Waterloo in under one hour). There is also a station, and shopping services, at Liphook (with journey times to London Waterloo around 65 minutes). The main A3 road that links London to Portsmouth is approximately three miles from the house. Headley village and Headley Down (both within a mile of the house) offer a good range of shops and services including a delicatessen / café, butcher, Post Office and doctor’s surgery / pharmacy. There is also a farm shop (Mill Lane) nearby.
