William Lescaze (1896-1969) moved to the United States in 1920 and set up his own practice in New York in 1923. Lescaze was one of the first proponents of the International Style, bringing it from Switzerland where he was born and studied. Kramer House, on 32 East 74th Street in New York and for sale with a guide price of $14,000,000, was built in 1934 for department store executive and later United States Colonel, Raymond C. Kramer (1901-1957). This townhouse has many of the same architectural features found in his most well known houses in New York: Edward Norman House at 124 East 70th Street and Lescaze House at 211 East 48th Street. The house offers 6,800 square feet as well as the potential for six bedrooms and five bathrooms. Different kinds of glass – clear, rippled, defused, and glass bricks – create a kaleidoscope of direct and defused light. Lescaze’s original wooden shelves and storage features remain. The house would make an excellent restoration project to bring it back to its former glory.
