What We're Hearing: My Parent the Architect - Polly Powell on Geoffry Powell

My Parent the Architect – Polly Powell on Geoffry Powell (1920-99)
12th March 2015. The Gallery, 70 Cowcross St, London

In 1951, three young architects submitted individual designs for a new housing scheme at Golden Lane in the City of London. When Geoffry Powell’s scheme was declared the winner, they implemented an agreement that if any one of them succeeded, the three would form a partnership. This was the origin of Chamberlin, Powell and Bon, who went on to build the Barbican Estate, New Hall in Cambridge and other major projects. In this talk organised by the Twentieth Century Society, Geoffry Powell’s daughter Polly Powell, owner of Pavilion Books, will talk about her father, and his interests and personality both on the job and outside of it.
