Next week Belgrave St Ives will open Terry Frost: A Book of Ideas – a unique exhibition of paintings and collages from Terry Frost’s seminal sketchbook.

A leading figure of English abstraction, the artist was best known for his colourful paintings, collages and prints. He was part of a close circle of British modernists including Peter Lanyon, Bryan Winter and Patrick Heron.

The exhibition opens on 19 June and presents a selection of 32 works from his sketchbook. The richly illustrated volume covers the period from the early 1970s to 1981, and contains a number of images that were developed into well-known paintings or worked into recognisable print media.

Several of Frost’s favourite subjects are explored in the sketchbook’s pages, including ‘Suspended Forms’, ‘Sun and Moon’ theme and the ‘Lorca’ series. The exhibition will run until 15 July 2017.
