Designed and built in Michigan in 1940 by the architect Alden Dow for his own occupation, this property is often said to resemble the work of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Dow had, in fact, worked as Wright’s apprentice in 1933, and his concept of creating a combined home and studio was influenced by the architect.

For Dow, the relationship between the property and its surroundings was also of vital importance. He lauded the concept of organic architecture, as the idea that ‘gardens never end and buildings never begin’.
