Statement
Founded in 2001 by Tom Emerson and Stephanie Macdonald, 6a architects is best known for its contemporary art galleries, educational buildings, artists’ studios and one-off residential projects. Closely aligned to the arts, 6a’s work spans doorknobs and exhibition design to large cultural buildings and international housing projects.  Recent works include new halls of residence for Churchill College, University of Cambridge (2016) and a Photography Studio for Juergen Teller (2016). The now 40-strong practice has won major international competitions and several prestigious awards, including RIBA Awards and consecutive nominations for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – the Mies Van der Rohe Award. In 2012 the practice was awarded the Eric Schelling Medal for Architecture.
