The Red Barn, Devon, UK
From £800 per week
Sleeps 4 (+cot)
The Red Barn is a superior barn conversion offering luxurious yet family-friendly accommodation in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.
The barn is situated on a seven-acre farm which is also home to its sister property, The Cob (which sleeps eight plus cot), nestled between two nature reserves.
The barn has a sun-flooded open-plan reception room, kitchen, and diner. The kitchen is equipped with all mod cons including a dishwasher, microwave and washing machine. There is a highchair to go with the four-seater dining table, as well as two sofas and a flat-screen TV with DVD player. There is also an iPod dock, WiFi, and a wide selection of DVDs and games for both parents and kids. Downstairs there are two bedrooms – one twin, one double. Both bedrooms have Egyptian cotton bedding and ample storage. The large bathroom has a bath, shower, a heated towel rail and extensive storage. Throughout the property there is underfloor heating powered by renewable energy from a Ground Source Heat Pump, and should you need it there is a also a wood-burning stove with a complimentary basket of logs supplied from the farm’s own woodlands.
Externally, the Red Barn has its own private deck overlooking a very large garden and tree-lined fields. The east-facing terrace gets sunlight all morning, beyond which can be found an orchard and meadows. There are also wooded areas with dens for children, large grassy areas, a vegetable plot and formal gardens.
The Red Barn is located four miles from Bude, a town with some of the country’s best beaches, including Northcott Mouth, Summerleaze, Widemouth Bay and Crackington Haven. The beaches are perfect for rock-pooling and surfing, and the coastal path is particularly stunning for walkers.
There are extensive opportunities for sailing, rowing and golf, and of course the Tate Gallery in St Ives. This area’s restaurants include Rick Stein’s restaurant in Padstow and Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant in Watergate Bay.
The nearest train station is Exeter St David’s, from where buses can be taken to Bude. The nearest airport is Exeter, from which Bude is 63 miles.
