Pego House, Comporta, Portugal
From approx £2,400 per week
This stunning modern house is located metres from Pego Beach, on the Alentejo coastline.
The single-storey luxury villa, which rises from the sand dunes, has a private heated pool, sunny terrace, landscaped gardens and breathtaking views.
It is located in Comporta, one of Portugal’s most exclusive coastal areas; Pego Beach has been named Portugal’s best beach for its clear waters and clean silky sand.
The villa has three bedrooms: an en-suite master bedroom with a shower and hydromassage bathtub, and two king-size double bedrooms, which can be arranged as twin rooms. The living room has a suspended fireplace and two sofa areas – one facing onto the interior courtyard and front deck, and one with a flatscreen TV and media centre.
The kitchen is fully equipped with top end appliances, and the dining area, facing onto the interior courtyard, seats eight. There are two additional bathrooms, one with a shower, and a laundry room with a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The pinewood decked interior courtyard is shaded by a cork oak tree and provides privacy and space for relaxation. The front deck, furnished with two lounge chairs, is perfect for watching the sun set and listening to the sounds of the ocean. It is decorated with a sunburst tile panel by Portuguese artist Querubim Lapa.
On top of the house is a pinewood terrace with a stunning private pool area, with lounge chairs and lounge beds. Its elevated position ensures maximum privacy. The heated pool (10m x 3m x 1.2m deep) has an electric cover and advanced heating system, ensuring a steady water temperature day and night. The water quality is checked weekly.
The house is built in a nature reserve and has landscaped gardens, sculpted to resemble the surrounding sand dunes. Wooden pathways lead through the pine trees and selected beach fauna.
The villa has underfloor heating throughout, wifi, cable television, a radio and an iPod docking station. It is alarmed and there is space for parking. A host will greet you on arrival and be available for enquiries throughout your stay. The villa has a total of 310 sqm of indoor space.
Pego Beach is a five-minute walk away – a long secluded sandy beach with a local restaurant and cocktail bar. From the beach, you can gaze at Arrabida mountain, a true natural paradise.
The house lies in front of a large field where you buy vegetables grown by local farmers, watch the storks and other birds and animals, and go for walks or runs.
Close by are more beaches to enjoy, a golf course, and small towns like Comporta. To travel back in time, you can visit the Cais Palafitico, with its wooden fishermen’s pier.
Comporta is an hour’s drive from Lisbon, which has an international airport.
