Architect: Wilson & Carter
Atlantic House, Essaouira, Morocco
From £800 per week
This property is a 200-year-old townhouse located within the twisting passageways of Essaouira’s old Medina.
Having been completely renovated by design partners Emma Wilson and Graham Carter, the house combines traditional Moroccan living with 21st-century comfort and style. The house is built around an open central light well that brings light down throughout the building, and features both vintage and contemporary furniture and lighting sourced by the owners. Set against white walls this creates a clean, modern and comfortable interior.
The spacious accommodation comprises four bedrooms, three ensuite wet rooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room, and two living areas, both with fireplaces. Outside are two sun terraces, one with panoramic sea and town views.
The property is just a two minute walk away from the souk and ten minutes from the harbour and beach. The property is a cool and comfortable base from which to explore Essaouira – a small and vibrant fishing port, given World Heritage status by UNESCO in 2001. The town’s original fortified ramparts, stone walls and narrow, traffic-free passageways remain unchanged since their construction over 200 years ago. The truly atmospheric Medina and the town’s picturesque appeal have drawn many film directors to its dramatic locations. The house has been featured in The Times and The Guardian.
